What color is he?

Ivy Walker says that she is able to see both her father and Lucius Hunt because they "give off the tiniest color."

What color do you suppose is connected to Lucius? Why?

What color do you suppose is connected to Edward? Why?

How are Lucius Hunt and Edward Walker similar, since they are the only ones that Ivy mentions as having color?

Socratic #2-Act II of The Crucible

Notes from Zach:

Does hale really believe in what is going on.
Yes he believes he is really getting rid of the devil
In it for the money
Not one to place the blame
For his reputation and his name because he stays back and is overwhelmed so he is just trying to save his name

What makes Abby so powerful and why can’t they turn against her?
Not really afraid of Abby but of the minister and the city.
Abby is really manipulative- did she do that herself so she could blame marry for being a witch.
Why are they still questioning Elizabeth when marry admitted she stabbed the doll.
The logistics of the Poppet- It was made in court while Abby was sitting next to her.
She saw the needle in the doll so did she stab herself to frame proctor.
How far are they willing to go to blame other people?
Far because the consequences of being a witch is the worst thing that could happen.
She is trying to persuade marry to speak about the whole thing because marry is being worried about being punished.
It could still hurt her name.
If proctor steps in it he might loose sales but if he doesn’t then his wife might get convicted of witchcraft.
Proctor cares about his wife because he is trying to prove himself as a good husband and he feels sorry and guilty about the affair so he is trying to redeem himself. Ex. To step up to legal officials to defend his wife.
Only 2 people and court might know if she is telling the truth.
They are all scared of being hanged. If they don’t accuse other people then they will get accused.
But then it could come back around until everyone gets accused. They will take it too far.
Will Abby accuse proctor? No because once she see’s that he doesn’t love her she will get really mad but still not accuse him.
Entire situation is becoming pointless because the whole point was to get proctor.
Will the court believe Abby or proctor? Whoever speaks first will be believed.
Favored on abbeys side because she goes to church and they already believe her.
Proctor does not go to church.
Why did the whole affair start? Was it Abby because she was working around him all the time and she if very manipulative.
Elizabeth didn’t do anything wrong it was just an opportunity for Proctor to try something new.
Is Proctor trying to save his wife so he can save his name and redeem himself from what he did with Abby.
If Elizabeth came out and told everybody then it would be her fault.
Why are they questioning Proctor? He seems really tense and he is responsible for the whole family and he didn’t go to church so that is another reason to question him.
What does the witchcraft trials say about Salem’s society? They are so religious so everybody jumped on it and freaked out about having the devil in their town because to them it needs to be perfect.
They need something to blame because when something isn’t explainable it is blamed on supernatural stuff like the devil.
What role does Parris play in the society now? He doesn’t want to defend witchcraft but he doesn’t want his daughters to be charged so he might be on the defending end more.
Since the devil got in why should they go to church because its already too late. Because the ministers didn’t do his job then why should they trust anyone?
Parris is not nearly as sneaky as the other people so he might not join the blame game or defend people.
He is not going to admit that he saw the girls dancing at night.
He wants to stay out of it because normally when parents find out their kids did something bad you normally want to keep it a secret ex. his kids were some of the first people to get it so he is trying to lay low.
If you truly believe you are not a witch you don’t want to go telling everybody you are for the sake of saving yourself but you still have to live with lying which is a big thing in there society.
Because it’s a small town it’s easy to blame just one person so then people will think that it wasn’t you because you were the one who blamed someone.
Will they all gang up on Abby or will they all be afraid of what she could do to them if they do blame her.
Even though it is a male dominated society the women are starting to run it because they are the ones being accused and accusing. The men are just trying to end it.
Maybe the more people they blame the more likely someone is going to come back and blame you.

Notes from Socratic Seminar-Unnatural Killers

FROM STEVEN:
•Murders were supposedly provoked after the persons involved went to a movie theater.
• Subject says that she saw a demon and that’s when she shot.
• Many recorded killings after the movie
• A focal point of the discussion revolved around a movie that many think prompted the killers to act.
• “The more you are exposed to something and you are around it, the more likely you are to act.”
• Some cannot distinguish between entertainment and reality.
• Author of article believed that there were only 2 ways to avoid problems:
o Boycott
o Place responsibility on Hollywood
• Many are entertained by movies, therefore boycotts do not always work
• “Filmmakers don’t say ‘oh, how twisted can we make this movie’… They say ‘how entertaining can we make this movie’”
• “I wonder why our culture is so attracted to murder”
• Curiosity about killing
• Producers of movies aren’t trying to do anything but make money. We are endorsing these movies by buying tickets to see them.
• If one producer is sued, people will try to sue every moviemaker because every movie can be tied to violence.
• “How many murders have been caused by alcohol and drugs, but we aren’t shutting down the breweries.”
FROM KELLY:
The discussion is about movies that make people want to kill after watching the video. Horror movies are for entertainment instead of ideas from the movie to commit murder. People who watch movies and go and kill are people who already had the idea of killing in their head before the movie they just get the idea from the movie to kill sooner than there braking point.
